GALLIFORMES: Megapodiidae
Leipoa ocellata
The weather was cold, windy and wet all weekend, not terribly conducive to camping out and birding but we had already considered ourselves lucky to have had a fleeting glimpse of one Malleefowl and also found four inactive mounds in Wathe Flora and Fauna Reserve.
Then at 5pm on Sunday in Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, between showers, two Malleefowl walked across the the Nowingi Track in front of our slowly patrolling vehicle. I missed the first completely but managed to grab the camera from the back seat and take this shot of the second Malleefowl through the windscreen.
